8th Edition Battlereport - 2500pts. Blood Angels vs. Death Guard

+++ALARMING ACTIVITY AT MANUFACTORUM 680+++

"How did they get so close? I mean, one minute everything was normal and all willy-nilly, and then
suddenly: Demons. Demons and rotting Space Marines and flying horrors spewing filth and disease. I saw it all! From the ruins I did! I'm tellin' ya, I saw a real flying Demon with wing and horns and the lot! By the Emperor, if it wasn't for the the Blood Angels, I'd be a goner, swear me mum!"

+++DEPLOY+++

Battlegroup 5/2nd received an order from the High Command to immediately deploy most of it's forces near the Manufactorum 680, investigate the situation, and purge all heretics encountered. The situation became clear as soon as the first troops set foot on the Manufactorum soil: The Heretics forces previously thought to be driven away, had indeed returned stronger and in greater numbers. The scouts even reported traces of Demonic precense.

DEPLOYMENT

The Blood Angels deployed in haste. Left flank was taken by the Baal predator supported by a Tactical squad, right flank by two squads of Intercessors and a squad of Hellblasters, while the center held castle within a ruined buildinf by a Razorback and two squads of Hellblasters led by a junior Captain. A sormraven carrying the Dreadnought 9 soared through the clouds to support the middle castle.

FIRETEAM IN POSITION

Meanwhile the heretic ranks had occupied the opposing side of the main streets. The Baal predator crew reported a massive Hellbrute surrounded by poxwalkers right in front of them. A Hauler and some drones buzzed around the foetid ranks of poxwalkers, and a crawler was spotted digging inside some ruins. Worst was yet to come: None other than the archvile Typhus himself was spotted towering over the rancid poxwalkers. Even more disturbing was the fortified platform on which some traitorous Space Marines held watch.

THE HELLBRUTE

And over them all, loomed the Demon.

+++ADVANCE+++

The will of the High Command was clear: Take and hold the platform currently occupied by the Demon host, kill their leaders and purge any and all resistance. But alas, the deployment was not a successful. The Blood Angels soon found them in a disadvanceous situation, where they could not bring their weapons in range. Only some scattered shot from the Hellblasters and the Razorback managed to dent some of the Enemy troops. Also the Baal Predator managed to mow down some of the poxwalkers around the Hellbrute. The Stormraven unloaded it's Lascannons managing to wound the Brute.

"COVERING FIRE, BROTHERS!"

Grazed from pain and frustration the Hellbrute responded by utterly disintegrating the Baal Predator with a massive double volley from it's lascannons. A Chaos Predator shot it's weapons at the Stormraven cribbling it. Meanwhile Typhys, the ever-cursed one, had some plan of he's own, and advanced towards an objective homer nearby.

The Demon host remained stationary, waiting

+++PURGE+++

As the hellblasters laid supporting fire towards the Chaos Troops, The Chief Librarian Mephiston ordered the squad of Death Company marines led by the company Chaplain, to assist him in taking down Typhus. They droppen on nearby tower and jumped in amongst a squad of poxwalkers. It was a trap. As th Death Company marines chopped down the poxwalkers, Combined fire from two bloated drones killed the marines and left Mephiston wounded.
"ONWARDS! FOR SANGUINIUS"

The Stormraven released the mag-clamps and dropped the Dreanought right next to the smoldering remains of the Baal Predator and banked towards the Hellbrute and Typhus. As the Dreadnought ran towards Typhus and his Poxwalker bodyguard the Stormraven destroyed the Hellbrute and balsted away most of the poxwalkers.

With the Frag Cannon roaring the Furioso Dreadnought rumbled amidst the poxwalkers taking a glancing shot from Typhus's pistol. With mighty blows the Dreadnought gravely wounded the Ancient Heretic, but finaly fell under the heretic Scythe.

THE LAST STAND OF DREADNOUGHT 9
The armoured column of the Chaos forces used their combined firepower to bring down the Stormraven. Things started to look grim for the noble Astartes as the Demon host finaly started to slowly move towards the Angels.

+++CHARGE+++

With the loss of the Dreadnought and the Stormraven there was no time to lose. Terminators armed with hammers and shields teleported nearby Typhus to aid Mephiston, while Captain Colpire jumped in from the skies with another squad of Death Company's damned warriors readying themselves to charge into the enemy castle. The Chaplain hurried to aid the assault.

The now wounded Chief Librarian himself charged Typhus, felling the wounded traitor and this left the terminator squad wihout a target. A suprise counter-attack by another Bloat Drone killed most of the terminators and forced Mephiston to teleport away from the battle.

Meanwhile a squad of Blightlord Terminators teleported to the rear of the Astartes troops, but failed to notice the Hellblasters dug in deep within the ruins. Ten Plasma Incinerators started rapid firing from cover towards the Chaos terminators killing most of them in an instant.

"OPEN FIRE!"

Finaly, the charge led by Captain Colpire tore the Heretic Troops asunder. Hammers and chainswords cut down enemies left and right. The heretics managed to overpower some of the Death Company Battlebrothers but in the end, it mattered little.

"FOR THE EMPEROR!"

And then came the Shadow.

A Demon Prince of Nurgle himself lunged from the ruins and laid it's eyes upon th Captain. Roaring it ran towards the Captain but the nimble Astartes Captain managed to swing his hammer at the demon. The strike tore of the Demons lower jaw, but did not completely stop it. The Demon struck the Captain, inflicting horrendous wound and forcing the Captain to teleport away, just before the remaining Death Company marines clubbered the Demon back to the Warp.

"You shall not pass!"

"Fly, you fools!"

"GO BACK TO THE SHADOWS!"

+++RETREAT AND REPENT+++

As the machines of the Manufactorum started to spew noxious fumes, the outcome of the battle became clear for the High Command. The Astartes had come to late, and could not stop the Heretics from fulfilling their plans. A command of Retreat and Repent was issued as the remaining Blood Angels desperately flung themselves towards the enemy.

"SHOOT THE HEAD!"
"WHERE IS THE HEAD!?!"

It was too late.
